'Zorzal' is the third album by Axel Krygier after his fantastically received debut 'Echale Semilla,' which took him from Buenos Aires to some of Europe's most important stages, such as The Barbican (opening up for Gotan Project) La Linea Festival, or Transmusicales de Rennes. Championed by DJ's such as Radio Nova´s Remy Kolpa Kapoul, the BBC's Gilles Peterson and Coldcut, Axel has made a name for himself for his incredibly original sound and musical chops (he plays over 10 instruments and sings). Other fans of Axel's include David Byrne (Talking Heads), Juana Molina, Gotan Project and Nicola Conte.
So what is it about Axel that fascinates people? Perhaps it is because he is able to create unique soundscapes that makes the imagination wander. Or perhaps it's because he has an ironic, twisted and addictive sense of humour and the absurd. Or perhaps it's because the guy knows how to kick a groove. Welcome to 'Zorzal' (which is actually a bird that is famous for it's singing..)
On 'Zorzal' the Argentine multi-instrumentalist brings us back into his dreamy world by using temptations both acoustic and electronic. There are vocal tracks as well as instrumentals (do you hear the theremin?)
Zorzal's twelve songs cover and combine a wide variety of rhythms and genres such as creole, psychodelia, oriental melodies as well as funk and dub. Although most of the instruments are played by Axel himself, the list of guest musicians include his fellow bandmates/cronies of the Sexteto Irreal, as well as Gaby Kerpel (signed to Nonesuch) and Kevin Johansen (Sony), among others. Axel's sister provides the heavenly vocals on the title track. 'Zorzal' was composed and produced by Axel Krygier and recorded in his home studio in Buenos Aires.
'AxelK.Soundsystem'. Is the solo and danceable version of Axel Krygier, multifaceted Argentine musician. Axel plays and improvises keyboards, flute and trumpet on top of cumbia, dancehall and hip hop beats. In addition to an interesting vocal game and precise managing of sound effects, he generates unique versions of his own compositions that reflect his colourful stylistic universe. Entertaining and charismatic, he immediately creates bonds with the public. The show comes complete with visuals performed by Axel himself who also happens to be a talented visual artist.
